"SPEAKING INSTRUMENTS, SINGING WORDS"®

"From Africa to Brazil, sound travel through extraeuropean music" ®

SEMINARY & WORKSHOP

                                                     general information

The seminary and the workshop "From Africa to Brazil, sound travel through extraeuropean music"®, not accidentally called "Speaking instruments, singing words"®, carried out by percussionist Peppe Consolmagno, build up a musical itinerary through tone, sound, rhythm and voice.

It is in no way meant only for specialists, since a wider audience incluging children, old people, disabled and teachers can enjoy its results and profit of its stimula.

It aims at developing:

an interest towards extraeuropean music;
knowledge of musical beat;
the knowlegde of the origins and names of some instruments;
an approach to the materials out of which instruments are made;
oral and written musical transmission;
the personal relation with instruments;
how to make instruments speak;

corporal music and the voice;
listening of music;

silence's and noise's value;
the sense of rhythm;
the curative aspect;
creative sense, improvisation, complicity.

It is useful and advisable to supplement the workshop with an concert ANIM E SONORE ® by Peppe Consolmagno. The combination completes the proposal by permitting to complete Peppe Consolmagno's "Solo Performance" with a great finale in which those present will play on stage as musicians, each one with the established role during the workshop's days.

It is possible to equip a workroom for building instruments (ceramics, wood, bamboo and metal). In this case the availability of a place suitable for materials working and the presence of a teacher or a craftsman or an expert artist is required.

Workshop in Catania, Italy

The workshop realised by Peppe Consolmagno, preferably for three days, is subdivided in this way:

First day - lesson concert (look at the seminary) and first approach to the workshop;
Second day - workshop (relaxation, breathing, vocal emition, instrumental's choice,

                        hands, feet and body use, rhythm);
Third day - workshop (rehearsals of one or two passages to play all toghether)

It is a matter of an audience turned to everybody, during which we will try a familiarisation with body, voice, rhythm and the complicity between musicians and the sound joint.

Two different groups can be involved, in other words: the first one will take part to the concert lesson and the second one will take part to the whole workshop. Thanks to this structure different interests can be satisfated.
