 INTRODUCTION  TO BOOK + CD:

A writer from Venice , a trumpet and a cello from Piedmont , a saxophonist from Sicily and a percussionist from Marche . And Africa . Into Sandro Cappelletto’s novel there is an Africa really wanted, understanding loved in an ardent way; in the Quartet an involuntary Africa probably lives but so present in timbres and in so evocative music.

In this way two different works, thought and realized in different times and places, meet themselves with a  impudent magic, let everyone, the narrator or the quartet, not to modify anything, neither a comma or a quaver of each own structure, thanks to the common denominator of the “ horizontality”.

A great unison (made by a reed, a brass and a string), that moves with mysticism on the obsessive drone of a berimbau, that doesn’t comment or describe the written words but so hardly evokes, and horizontally, wide spaces and spirituality of a continent that is, willing or not, inside everyone of us.

And the same sense of quiet and “eternal” is in the wellbeing of the African man  laying of the grave of “mon capitan” and in the endless spatiality of melodic lines that, escaping from the harmony’ cages, move themselves freely and horizontally towards infinity.
